In 1992, the capital of Catalonia hosted the Olympics and it is one of
the largest cities on the western Mediterranean. Barcelona is steeped in
artistic history, especially Gothic and Modernist architecture. It has
interesting museums and sights. Barcelona has a lot to offer: urban
parkland and ample opportunity for leisure, long promenade and wide
expanses of beach, select shops, well-established tradition of music and
theatre. Barcelona is also an important centre for sporting and
touristic activities and offers wonderful cuisine.
Thus, in the late 20th century, Barcelona became one of the best-known cities in Europe, whose energy and beauty appeal to its residents as well as visitors from all over the world, who are drawn by its architecture, cultural events, beaches, and, of course, its people.
